Runcorn club timetable changes October 3 - 21

Dear all,
Warrigal Road state school advised today that they are again to do some renovations on the Runcorn Club hall between the period October 3 - October 21 inclusive.

As a result the Thursday nights Runcorn club cannot operate but the Sunday night Class will be moved for this period to the Kuraby State School (Kuraby Club).

Therefore Kuraby Club will hosts its normal Tuesday night class and also the Sunday classes for 2 Sundays.
So the temporary timetable is this:

Sunday Oct 2 - Normal class at Runcorn
Thursday October 5 - No Class
Sunday 9 - Held At Kuraby
Thursday October 12  - No Class
Sunday October 16 - Held at Kuraby
Thursday October 19 - No class
Sunday 23 October - Normal classes recommence.

I also encourage you to make use of nearby classes such as Rochedale (WED), Calamvale ( MON).

My apologies for the inconvenience but its out of our hands.

Thank you

The Coffee Break Project

As a Club we are sponsoring the Coffee Break Project.

The Coffee Break Project encourages the community to give up coffee during the month of October to raise funds for the charity Group 61 and increase awareness for those suffering from mental illness.

The Coffee Break Project aims to draw awareness of the significance and importance that ‘going for a coffee’ has for a particular segment of the community – those with poor mental health. For these people, going for a coffee is much more than just a caffeine kick.

Group 61 pairs volunteers up with people suffering from mental illness (referred to as friends) and volunteers take their ‘friend’ out once a week for coffee and conversation. For many ‘friends’, this is their only weekly outing. This simple act provides these forgotten members of our community with much needed social interaction and grants them greater freedom and confidence.

We challenge the community to have a coffee-free October and seek sponsorship from friends, family and colleagues. All funds raised will go towards Group 61.

PLEASE accept the challenge & take the plunge today: REGISTER as an individual or team.

We have a lot of people in our club and they in turn know a lot of others in the wider community so please spread the word about this great cause and be proactive.

Club Demonstration

The next club demonstration will be at Warrigal Road State School (Runcorn Club) on Saturday 10 September at 1pm for approximately 20 minutes.

The demo is for all colored belt and black belt levels and is a great way to show off not only the club but more importantly your skills.
.
Club demos count towards black belt promotions so this is a good opportunity to gain those valuable points.

Please advise your instructor if you are attending ASAP.

Charity Event – Trivia night in aid of Vision Australia.

Our next charity event is to support the efforts of Vision Australia (Qld Blind Society).

The event will be held at the Mt Gravatt State School – Logan Road Mt Gravatt on Saturday night September 10 commencing at approx 6 p.m.
The cost is only $10 per person.
This is a community event we are helping to run and participate in.
The funds go directly to Vision Australia for much needed equipment.

This charity event can be used towards your black belt promotion requirements.

What I would like to do is book tables at the trivia night and ask those planning to attend to email me or advise your instructor as soon as possible.

Cho's tournament 2011

“It was a great day at Cho’s tournament on Sunday. Mr Lister and his club made us feel very welcome. Apart from the usual poomsae and sparring, they also had stick fighting and creative board breaking. David Pham impressed everyone with his creativity and won 2 gold in sparring - 1 in the red division and 1 in the black division (David accepting his medal in video). I also won gold in the poomsae”.

Club raffle for the Western Clubs to the 2011 Nationals in Canberra

Our western clubs are running a local raffle to raise funds for their trip to the 2011 Taekwondo nationals in Canberra.

As these clubs regularly support the whole clubs activities, mainly those based in Brisbane, I thought it a good opportunity as a whole club to get behind this. The raffle will be drawn on 20 August 2011 by Grandmaster Lee during his visit to Dalby.

Tickets are only $1 each and they are available either from your instructor or by emailing me direct.

This is an excellent opportunity to support those who support you and at $1 it’s hardly a financial burden.

The raffle has 21 different prize categories for only $1 so it represents great value.

Please support this event; every dollar makes a difference to those

competitors and you never know you might be a winner.

The prizes are listed below. (click on read more)
