The awards for 2016 have been presented and certainly well deserved.
The night was a success with only some minor technical issues beyond our control. To those who attended this night thank you very much and for sharing the presentation of the awards to our remarkable students and volunteers.
To the organising committee the club owes you their gratitude for the 100 + hours it took to put this event together.
Of particular note are the following awards recipients:-
- Volunteer of the Year – Des and Kyleigh Bailey (Dalby),
- Charity – Mrs Geraldine Choi and Mrs Helen Schmidt with special mention to Miss Fiona McLeod and Mr Adam Williams,
- 20 year Awards – Mr Nick lee and Dr Justin Bray,
- Instructors of the Year – Mr James Pruss (Cleveland) and Mr Adam Williams (Capalaba),
- Yoshi Nakazato Memorial Award – Mr Daniel Mohr,
- Club Branchof the year – Indooroopilly,
- Student of the Year – Mr Gordon Ma.
There were many highlights on the night and the awarding of so many spirit awards is a testament to your outstanding contribution to the club and your perseverance in training. Our gratitude is also expressed to our Club Patron Mr Michael Groom for being able to attend.

If you currently do not have one of these sheets which stipulates the minimum requirements to be completed prior to sitting your 1st Dan Black Belt exam please notify your instructor so one can be provided. These sheets must be completed and accompany any grading application.
Please remember that the club rewards you for introducing new students to the club via the ‘Gift certificate Scheme’ by giving you their joining fee of $35.00. Please remember to inform your instructor so payment can be made to you.
Why not use these as Xmas presents and these are attached for you to print out.
The club hires the Mt Gravatt Hall out to the general public and also to its own club members.
Your rate is 50 % of the public rate.
You have full use of the Hall, kitchen and the use of the club Bar B cue.
If you refer a hirer the club will pay you $50 as a token of thanks.
Club members may not be aware but the club offers experienced licenced security officers for functions. As you imagine these officers, all whom are members of this club are committed to providing not only an excellent service but one reflecting the clubs ethics and are committed to ensuring your guests have a safe and wonderful event.
Events covered are parties and functions.

In February 2015 and going forward on a 6 monthly basis, the club will be offering First aid Courses via St John’s Ambulance.
These courses are for both new accreditation and renewals/upgrades and are open to club members, family and friends. The club will be subsidising these courses so prices will be discounted.
Further details will be available in the December newsletter.

A successful fundraising activity the ( 40 hour foot fist fling) whereby students trained ovber a 40 hour period was run to raise much needed funds for Australia’s returned soldiers needing repatriation .
The initial donation was $4000 and when all proceeds are received we expect this to top $6000.
The next club camp is scheduled for October 19 & 20, again at the Runaway Bay Sports Super Centre.
I am sure all are eager for a water polo rematch
On the 9th of November Russell Macarthur Taekwondo and Hapkido will be holding its first ever Annual Taekwondo Awards night at the Mt Gravatt Bowls club The night will include a buffet meal followed by a DJ.
Costs will be subsidised by the club but are expected to be very reasonable.
Below is a list of the awards Students and Instructors will be eligible to achieve in 2013. There are certain criteria to be able to win awards, and this will be explained in future newsletters.

- Russell Macarthur Spirit of Taekwondo awards,
- Russell Macarthur Queensland Representative award
- Russell Macarthur Australian Representative award

- Russell Macarthur Tournament Champion of Champion
- Russell Macarthur Junior Student of the year
- Russell Macarthur Senior Student of the year
- Russell Macarthur Instructor of the year
As a result of the Qld open being scheduled on the same weekend as our grading, this has an impact on the awards night results in November.
So the new grading date is Saturday 15 June 5pm – 9pm
